Uche Ignites Dominant Crystal Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Conference League playoffs.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the knockout stages, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Moment
This match provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, finding the net for the second game in match.
The Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season were outmatched against a largely second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.
Dominance Established from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the official waved away the appeals.
The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
