The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct direction.
The president stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Strategic Hires
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the full message from the president's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming him soon. We are all eager to keep observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.
The President

Game Details and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary explains. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that change every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or take a risk, risk it all, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The option is in your hands."
The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or consoles, but players can look forward to additional details as development continues.
