Catherine's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
